Healthy teeth and gums are a vital part of your pet’s overall health. By age three, around 80% of dogs and 70% of cats already show signs of dental disease. Even if your pet’s mouth looks clean, hidden problems may be developing below the surface. Left untreated, dental disease can lead to painful infections, tooth loss, and even damage to the heart, liver, or kidneys.
At Bangor Veterinary Clinic, we take your pet’s dental health seriously. While advanced dental cleanings and X-rays are performed at our sister clinic in Gobles, every pet we see in Bangor has their mouth carefully examined during wellness visits so we can catch issues early and guide you on the next steps.
How We Check Your Pet’s Dental Health
Your pet’s oral health is evaluated at every wellness exam:
- Visual Exam: Checking teeth and gums for tartar, redness, swelling, loose teeth, or signs of pain.
- Comfort & Bite Assessment: Looking at jaw alignment and any signs of oral masses or ulcers.
- Home Care Guidance: We will discuss brushing, chews, rinses, and your pet’s individual risk factors with you.
When your pet needs a dental cleaning, we’ll coordinate their care with our sister clinic, Gobles Veterinary Clinic, which offers professional cleanings and advanced dentistry.
A professional dental cleaning under anesthesia allows us to scale away plaque and tartar above and below the gumline, polish the teeth, and take dental X-rays to detect hidden disease.
